Lets Get Started

The aims of this website are to help you understand:

  1. The role of diet in causing chronic diseases
  2. What types of food to avoid (because they increase your risk of chronic disease)
  3. Foods you can eat that will do the following:
    1. Minimize your risk of chronic disease
    2. Make you healthier

Then I would like to help you transition to the healthier you by:

  1. Giving you simple meals you can make.
  2. Pointing you to some good sources for healthy recipes.
  3. Teaching you what to buy and what to avoid when you go food shopping.
  4. Helping you understand what a healthy balanced diet should look like.

Before you start, you need to know what it will take to succeed:

Motivation – this will call for change, and change takes willpower.

Understanding – lasting changes will only occur if you know why you are making them

Time – you will need to spend a minimum of 1-2 hours per week to learn about this

Company – if you can get a friend or partner to join you on this journey, it will be easier.  In addition meeting with others who share your goals will be especially powerful.

I have done the following to help you:

  1. Broken the content into short segments
  2. Incorporated repetition of some key concepts
  3. Made concrete suggestions of changes you can make
  4. Given you the chance to improve every page of this website with a feedback button.

Throughout my website I have put links to further information to help you.  For example if you click on the word ‘willpower’ in the paragraph above it will take you to a book by Roy Baumeister on this topic.  I frequently link to books on Amazon since by scrolling down you can see what other readers thought of the book.

I also often mention if a result is statistically significant.  This is done by putting the probability of the results being found by chance in brackets.  If this probability is less than 5 percent (P<0.05) the results are statistically significant.

I often list references to the studies I am talking about at the bottom of the page along with further reading for those who would like more information.
